    Re: GC vs Leb

Seeding gets you a game at home. You had that, we had that. Both of us were #1 seeds, both of us took care of business pretty much all year. Both of us had to play on the same neutral field, both of us lost. Both of us, as you like to say, overachieved. Honestly I'd have loved to haved played Norton on our field, we were undefeated at home this year ourselves. Our crowds are good, and anybody is going to love to not have to travel. The thing is, it's not about Clintwood or Norton or Gate City, its about making things semi-fair to all and trying to make sure there is a standard of quality. Yeah Gate Citys facility is good enough to handle the game, so is a lot of places but not all. This works out by allowing everything to be planned. One of the things I hated was having to go play Gate City in baseball in freaking TN. Was the facility nice? Yeah no doubt, but how has that fair? And why should people have to go there? The argument was made that it was a nice facility, no doubt it was. Thats the argument made by UVA-Wise and yeah its not perfect, but the point is, its a dang nice facility and outside of parking problems (which it has) it has a great environment for games. Again I dont like the idea of next weeks games being played on non-neutral sites and I wish they would fix that. Fine, you're the number one seed, you earned your first game at home, you earn home field for the next. You don't earn a dance by the Hooters girls because you were a number one seed (although if you did that, bet you would have a lot more fight for that seeding). I look at it this way, if you're the number one seed, you should be able to win if you're the best team. It doesn't always work out, and if you are the top seed, ok you miss that one home game but if you have to have it at home to win, you probably aren't deserving to win in the first place.

There is no perfect solution but till its done equally all around, our ugly solutions are what we got. Just don't scream so loud when it hurts you but remain absolutely quiet when it helps you.
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

    Re: GC vs Leb

How was playing baseball in TN unfair?

My only gripes with playing at UVA-Wise is that according to the VHSL playoff designations, the higher seed in regional football competition earns the right to play at home, until state competition.

Playing on that surface was fine 4 years ago for preparing teams for state play, but now it is outdated and unnecessary IMO.

And, IMO, to play a HS game, it should be played by NFHS regulations. I have a gripe with that when it comes to the state finals being played at Liberty, Tech or UVA this year since more than likely you are using college goalposts instead of proper NFHS regulation size posts. Just my .02 cents.

    ahh the Great City arrogance

"You might not agree but I would say the reason you don't agree is because you aren't going to be the #1 seed most years."

How many state titles does GC have in football????

    We have EIGHT.

This is insane. GC gets to host a playoff game, thats the reward for being the #1 seed. I dont understand why the GC fans get so upset.

The REGION D PRINCIPALS voted to have these games (football and basketball) like this. Its not like the LPD teams conspired to screw Great City, no matter how much you think they do.

and Stripes. The point is that GateCity folk only gripe when it doesnt benefit them. Playing at Hunter-Wright benefits them, so they will never do away with it, even though it brings up the same exact problems you pointed out about UVAW.
Hunter-Wright is not a high school stadium.

So Gate City, how can you be so content to play at Hunter-Wright, which is not a HS sporting stadium, but throw a fit over playing at UVAW?

I did not say anything about a HS stadium. I said playing within NFHS specifications. Theres a difference there. Hunter Wright fits NFHS specifications.

Biggin, I don't think a lot of folks liked playing at Hunter Wright either. Sure, it was a nice field and GC played there because the alternative was playing on a field that might be fit for a middle school game. But hang in there!! Grade work is ongoing for a new complex that will house baseball, softball, soccer, etc....There's just not that much usable (enough for a sporting facilities), available land around GC and a fine person finally decided to sell some
"They (Miami) told me I wasn't big enough to play running back,'' said Ryan Williams with a snicker. "And they tried to offer me as an athlete or wide receiver."

oh how smurfy. we have a big 6'3 smurf from the Lone Star Smurf State. coach smurf is really happy because now all the bad smurfy feelings about the year are gone and everything is back to its old smurfy self. sometimes i worry tho that this gigantic smurf may come in and be the big smurfy jock and take smurfette's heart away from me. but i sat around and i smurfed long and hard about it.. and he can do smurfy things that us other smurfs cant do.... like touch the rim or touch the backboard or touch the net. so i guess its smurfy.

Clinch Mountain District in basketball........again.

Now that is a Smurfy thought!!!

Ah there is that PV arrogance too! No need in complaining about all this now anyways. At least not on a message board. Lebanon is facing Radford in two days for a chance to play at Salem and GC is preparing for next Football season.

Hope you know I like to Rib you Biggin and Rock because both of you like me cant help but be vocal about these issues. Where would this board be without some good arguments?

Oh and one last thing Biggin. How many more years you going to keep bringing up the incident about some GC fans yelling at Chris? Back when that happened about 6 years ago no one from GC knew he was mentally challenged. The fans involved just thought he was a very passionate PV fan. I remember and saw it happen. Chris was yelling at the GC Fans and they started yelling back at him not knowing anything about him. We have a guy just like him that does the same thing Chris does. Just ask PVFan. I have always said if half the fans of GC and PV were as passionate about their teams as those two we would really have something speacial!

I respect what PV has done in the past. But the way things look they aren't going to be very good at least for the time being. Could that change? Of course it could. But right now it is what it is....

The Hunter Wright deal. The field is regulation. The bases, the mound, What is the problem with Hunter Wright? You really have no argument. Those games are Gate City Home games. So IMO Gate City should be able to play their home games there if they choose. It is what 10 minutes from the high school. I mean come on? If PV wants to play their home games at Wise I don't have a problem with it. If Burton does I don't have a problem.

But this isn't a PV home game. It is a regional final. The #1 seed ,whoever that is should have something to say about where the game is played. They earned that right on the field. Which is the only thing IMO that should matter. This isn't done across the state. This does nothing but take away the reward these kids earned by winning real football games. These Principles can vote all they want. But it still doesn't change the fact GC kids earned the right to play at home if that is what they wanted to do. Which it is.

Good luck to Leb. and Burton. I am done with this.....
"Players win games. Teams win championships."
